November is looking to be a rockin’ month for indie-style film. So go ahead and leave Jack Reacher and American Honey to the mass chain and step out for some fun, thoughtful and great movies. Marguerite and The Violin Teacher have music in common but that’s where the similarity ends  — although they are both warm and funny.  Marguerite can’t sing but the will is strong and her friends deceive her until one day she decides that she should perform in public. In The Violin Teacher, set in Brazil, a young violinist is relegated to teaching children instead of playing in the orchestra and, while it sounds corny, it has depth and the lively soundtrack doesn’t hurt either.You might feel like you’ve heard enough about refugees, but this is one film that you don’t want to miss. Fire at Sea focuses on an island off Sicily where for the past 20 years the summer has brought thousands of people fleeing their homes. It’s masterful and observant and opens the window for you to make up your own mind about the impact.
