Christ Church Cathedral’s Summer Recital Series returns July 1 with free weekly chamber music concerts until the end of August.

Thousands of concertgoers attend the festival every year to see pianists, classical guitarists, cellists and even the cathedral’s own sixty-voice choir perform.

Now in its 61st season, the fetival is showcasing a blend of local and international artists spread throughout nine concerts, including this year’s standout act: renowned pianist-comedienne Sarah Hagen, who explores music inspired by birdsong and performs with musical virtuosity and humour.

The first concert of the season, July 1 at 4:00 p.m., features The Cathedral Choirs and Organists’ UK Tour send-off as they prepare to bring their talents over seas and perform music by Stanford, Gibbons, Mendelssohn, Parry and others.

The Summer Recital Series runs every Saturday in July and August under the gothic arches of Christ Church Cathedral. Admission is by donation.
