South Island meat lovers are dreaming of getting their hands saucy at Esquimalt Ribfest, grilling up a weekend of delicious fun Sept. 6 to 8 at Bullen Park.
Six ribber teams will do a rib cook-off, presenting their creations on Saturday at 4 p.m. to a celebrity panel of judges, who determine the best ribs and best sauce.
But throughout the weekend, those who attend the event will also get their say, too.
Attendees can vote for the People's Choice Award using paper ballots and a ballot box at the info tent.
The fun, of course, is not just limited to the food. The weekend will be packed full of free music and entertainment, craft beer, cider and wine, free kids' activities, local arts and vendors.
The Esquimalt Celebration of Lights and Esquimalt High School Rubgy groups are also running 50/50 draws.
It's all for a good cause. Outside of operating costs, all Ribfest proceeds are returned to the community through the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Foundation and the Esquimalt Ribfest Society.
For 12 years, the event has been used to put money in a trust with the Victoria School District in support of a community-based sports facility with an all-weather turf field and a neighbourhood track/chip trail surface for walking and jogging.
Ribfest runs Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is a cash-only event. Learn more at esquimaltribfest.com
