Queer As Funk returns to Pacific Fleet Club
Totally unique in the history of Vancouver’s LGBTQ community, Queer as Funk brings together some of the city’s hottest musicians in an explosive, high-energy dance band. With repertoire ranging from beloved funk, soul and Motown classics of the 60’s and 70’s, to contemporary favourites, Queer as Funk is also the sharpest-dressed suit-and-tie band in town.
For the fourth year in a row, Queer as Funk brings two shows to the Pacific Fleet Club.
April 7th’s show will feature singer Ang Hehr opening for Queer As Funk and DJ Slade.
April 8th will feature a pre-show gala mix-and-mingler, with jazz and hors d’oeuvres, followed by the Queer As Funk show with DJ Slade.
Both shows are presented by Queerly Victoria, in sponsorship with TD Bank.
“Queerly Victoria has been amazing, and so generous with their time and talent in producing this yearly event,” said Alison Gorman, band manager and trumpet player with Queer as Funk. “This is their fourth annual fundraiser, and we’re hoping to sell it out for the fourth year in a row. It’s a high energy dance party, and everyone is welcome.”
Funds from the two shows will go to the Indigenous Perspectives Society (IPS) and Childhaven International. Funds raised for IPS will go towards its Two Spirit & Indigenous LGBTQ Identity workshop, co-hosted with the Victoria Friendship Centre. The workshop empowers young two-sprited youth to find pride in who they are and find their voice to empower other young people in their community. Childhaven International supports Childhaven’s home in Chittagong, Bangladesh; a home providing care to 67 children and 15 women living in severe poverty. Tickets to the concerts are $30, and $55 for the Gala + show on Saturday.
