Emma Yardley finds out what's sneaking into shoe design

  • Aug. 8, 2013 6:00 a.m.

What pops into your mind when you think “Finland”? I immediately see towering ice hotels, herds of running reindeer, and the stylized poppies of a Marimekko print. For over 60 years this chic and cheerful Finnish design house has been sending its fun geometric textiles out into the world and, for the past two years, out on people’s feet, too.

The Converse x Marimekko collection pulls a number of iconic prints from their archives and matches them up with cult-classic Chuck Taylor canvas sneakers. White loops, black leopard spots or orange waves, no matter which pattern you pick, each pair is as timeless as the two enduring companies that designed them.
