Ross Douglas brings stories, music to Sooke

Songwriter, musician, and actor Ross Douglas returns this weekend for the Sooke Folk Music Society’s monthly coffeehouse.

The coffeehouse is held Saturday (March 17) at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1963 Murray Rd., in Sooke. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The die was cast in 1963 when Douglas first heard The Beatles. What followed has been a varied career.

Douglas has played the piano player in satirical glam rock The Choke Sisters. He has also played Brad Majors in the first-ever Canadian production of the Rocky Horror Show.

Douglas has seen much of the world as Piano Player / Narrator in the second-ever cast of Billy Bishop Goes to War, including stops on-and-off-Broadway, in Bermuda, and Berlin. He has even played The Penis in the musical Health.

With more than 1,000 performances as Larry in Angry Housewives, he received a Jessie Award for outstanding musical direction.

Douglas is an award-winning songwriter, and has written and produced three albums of original songs: Two Direction, Caribou Eclectic and The Art of You and I.
