Luscious ladies love literature

Naked Girls Reading: Fairy Tales

If you think lovely ladies and literature go together like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, then Naked Girls Reading: Fairy Tales might be for you.

Brought to you by the fabulous Miss Rosie Bitts — burlesque dancer extraordinaire, Fairy Tales is the third instalment in Victoria of the Naked Girls Reading franchise, which has spread throughout North America, and recently to London, England.

“The show is exactly what it says. It’s naked girls reading. The thing that most people don’t get until they get to the show is that it’s really magical,” Bitts says. “Everyone loves that feeling of being a little kid and having someone reading to you.”

The Naked Girls Reading franchise was created by Michelle L’Amour, an award-winning burlesque performer from Chicago who was named Miss Exotic World 2005.

The Victoria show will feature Miss Bitts, alongside Diamond Minx — Vancouver’s blond bombshell of burlesque — and Rad Juli, a local leather worker.

“We're doing it because we can. It’s so simple. There are women all over the world who can’t — they get stoned, ostracized, all sorts of awful things happen to them because they show their bodies,” Bitts says. “It’s like taking advantage of the right to vote. I vote even though I may not like the candidates.”

Expect to see real female bodies reading classic fairy tales in an intimate setting — the private room at the Fernwood Inn.

“They have a back room we can partition off so it’s private,” Bitts says. “We can only fit about 55 people in there, so it’s very intimate and cozy. The idea is that it’s like an intellectual salon from the 1920s. We want people to eat and drink, have a good time.”

The show starts at 8 p.m. and has two intermissions so the audience can discuss amongst themselves or chat with the performers.

“This is a unisex event, it’s definitely not just for men. It’s not a sexualized event even though there’s nudity,” Bitts said. “Even if you’re not an intellectual reader you’ll enjoy it. If you are a nerdy reader you’ll enjoy it more. It’s the perfect end to the weekend.” M
