What are we talking about? Trager Bodywork

Where and who?
Rae Bilash, Senior Trager Practitioner, Hakomi Therapist and CranioSacral Therapist. 250-380-8733, raebilash.ca

Can ya dig it? Trager involves the use of movement to introduce relaxation in the body releasing tension, pain or trauma that may be impairing the body’s functionality and mobility. Using a very gentle technique, the body’s muscles and soft tissue are invited to experience a “re-education” leading to a return to the natural state of physical relaxation and freedom. It’s a practice that improves posture, balance and flexibility, increases feelings of self-worth and induces a sense of peacefulness and relaxation; it can also assist in faster recovery from injuries, relief from headaches, sciatica and digestive disorders, among other ailments.

Would I do it again?
I spent the majority of the treatment lying on my back on the table while Rae made her way around me, working on everything from my head to my toes. I quickly realized the ability to completely relax my body was essential in order to give myself over fully to the release of tension. I had to go rag-doll all the way! The gentle movements were calming and soothing; the rocking motion gave me a sense of safety and security in my own body and provided a wonderfully comforting feeling, and created a pleasant feeling of warmth that spread throughout my body. Having the chance to allow my arms and legs to flop and surrender to someone else’s movement felt fantastic and this non-invasive, rocking style felt completely natural. It was a real treat to be introduced to this kind of bodywork and experience healing in this way. Consider me a convert!
